Henry Cockburn

1779-1854

Was a Scottish lawyer, judge and literary figure.  He served as Solicitor General for Scotland between 1830 and 1834.He contributed regularly to the Edinburgh Review and was a member of the famous Speculative Society, to which Sir Walter Scott, Henry Brougham and Francis Jeffrey belonged. His chief literary work, the Memorials of his Time, appeared posthumously in 1856.
